Background and Content

China International Steel Congress, organized by CISA and MC-CCPIT once every two years, is a high-level conference focusing on the profound, overall and strategic issues facing the steel industry. Since its birth in 2000, the congress has been successfully held for five times and has become one of the most important steel events in the world.

The year 2010, marking the ten-year anniversary of the congress and the end of the first decade of the new millennium, will be an extremely important year of transformation to adapt to the changed post-crisis landscape. In the first decade of the new millennium, great changes have taken place in politics, economy and society along with the deepened development of globalization, information technology and the new round of science and technology revolution.Saving energy and resources, preserving ecological environment and curbing climate change have become the common understanding of the human being amid the continued economic booms around the world. The financial and economic crisis, however, reveals huge hidden risks in the process of fast economic growth and social transformation and warns that all countries and industries must step up their efforts to explore ways of sustainable development.

The 6th China International Steel Congress, to be held with the theme Development Strategies in the Post crisis Era, will call on the industry leaders to review the steel development in the last ten years, analyze the impacts of the financial crisis and identify development strategies in the coming five to ten years. The main topics of the congress include Consolidation, Management Change, Technology Innovation and Human Resource Development, which we believe are the keys for the world steel industry to respond to the challenges of the financial crisis and the climate change. The congress will consist of a Plenary Session including keynote speeches and panel discussions from 9 to 10 May and the Technical Seminars from 11 to 12 May. The speakers invited to the plenary session include the leaders of China Iron and Steel Association, the Chinese Society for Metals, the China Academy of Engineering, the Development Research Center of China and the Chairmen and CEOs of the world leading steel producers including Arcelormittal, Nippon Steel, POSCO, US Steel, Baosteel, Ansteel, WISCO, Shougang, Shasteel and Taiyuan Steel, etc. The Technical Seminars, held in conjunction with Metal+Metallurgy Expo 2010, will present innovative technologies covering the whole steel production process but focusing particularly on energy saving and environmental protection.
